Best Albums of 2k11...so far!

Well folks, we made it half way through 2011 with threats of an apocalypse, the great royal wedding, and all those fun infidelity scandals (Weiner!). There was also some great music that presented itself, and here are a few that we picked. If you haven't gotten your copy of each one, jog on over to your local record store and check them out.

Burst Apart: With luscious falsettos and swooning synths, The Antlers second album couldn't be more perfect.  I Don't Want Love

Scandalous: Austin's own Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears' sophomore release channels the soul and sounds of the past into a funky album that belongs in any era. Livin' in the Jungle

Bon Iver: Bon Iver's soothing vocals and beautiful instrumentation make this album a top choice for anyone's top albums of the year. Holocene

Cults: These two know how to bring the cheerfulness and doo-wop sound of the '50s into modern day music, and it's perfect for a sunny day by the pool. You Know What I Mean

Zonoscope: Cut Copy is known to make us all want to shake our ass and dance, and they've succeeded in doing that again. Take Me Over

Rome: Danger Mouse captures the essence of classic Spaghetti Western cinema while feeling wholly original. It's the ultimate soundtrack without a film. The Rose With A Broken Neck

James Blake: This British lovely was first a producer and finally graced the world with his gorgeous singing voice and put a little electronic/dub-step in with it. I Never Learnt To Share

Blood Pressures: Dirty. Sexy. Rock. Future Starts Slow

Born This Way: The princess of the pop charts gives us a mix of hard electro while singing about Jesus and heavy metal which surprisingly works in a way that nobody could produce except Gaga. Bloody Mary

The King of Limbs: Brit rockers Radiohead released their eighth studio album with much anticipation from we loyal fans, and they did not disappoint. Lotus Flower

Underneath The Pine: Hailing from the chillwave genre, Toro Y Moi (Bull and Me) continues to bring us fun, feel-good music to groove to and put a smile on the faces of many. Still Sound

21: Adele's soulful and sultry voice is enough to put her at the top of the list for heaven's choir. Rumour Has It

Tomboy: Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) finally gave fans more of what we were craving-psychedelic tunes with fun synths and interesting sounds that have a tendency to leave you in a dizzying twirl. Alsatian Darn

Honorable Mentions:

The Weeknd-House of Balloons
Fleet Foxes- Helplessness Blues
Lykke Li-Wounded Rhymes
Wanda Jackson-The Party Ain't Over
TV on the Radio-Nine Types of Light
Oh Land-Oh Land

  1. If I may be so bold as to recommend a couple of titles: Ellie Goulding - Lights and Moby - Destroyed.
