We at MSD have decided to celebrate and embrace Shark Week with... well, with some ridiculousness. Be on the lookout for a week's worth of shark-related (kinda...) posts and other fun stuff.

Whipped Cream of the Day
• Only a few more days until the new Beirut album comes out digitally. I haven’t been this excited for something since I found out there was going to be a re-make of The Karate Kid. Here’s another new song.
• Gauntlet Hair is finally coming out with a full-length album on October 18th. The Chicago natives first dazzled me with “I Was Thinking.” Here’s a new one called “Top Bunk.” You can listen and download both here.
• For my weekly update on all things Washed Out, here he is beautifully covering Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” which can listen & download here. A fan has released a video for the song “Before” that goes along with the song's dewey, 60s-romantic feel. Also, an interview and performance of “Eyes Be Closed” at the Guardian studio in the UK.
• The Antlers have been doing in-studio sessions with some great artists including Neon Indian & Bear In Heaven. Here they are performing “Hounds” with the smokey Nicole Atkins.
• Everyone has to watch this remarkable video shot by a devoted fan for LCD Soundsystem’s “Friends.” It’s done entirely in LEGOS.
• Björk’s video for “Crystalline” which is a swirling stop motion haze of spacey effects and colors.
• Disco maniacs Holy Ghost! just unleashed the video for “Some Children” from their self-titled album that came out earlier this year. The track features the vocals of none other then Michael McDonald.
• Feist is putting out a brand new album that will show it’s pretty face later in the year. Read more about over at Pitchfork.
• And for the nerdy portion of this editorial, at this year’s Comin-Con, Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse whipped out a scene from Season 1 that never aired. What comes from this is kind of big deal.
Check em' - The Bright Light Social Hour
Here's a rowdy group of young men from Austin that have brought back what rock 'n' roll truly is. They've been labeled as "the prophet of the future," and their sound has been described as many things including "funk, psychedelia and soul the likes of which haven't been heard since Studio 54." To see The Bright Light Social Hour play live is a totally different thing, mesmerizing in fact (and I'm not just saying that because I'm in love with the guitarist). They are currently touring in Florida, and on August 28, they'll be headlining the 21st Annual Hot Sauce Festival in Waterloo Park in Austin.
Stream their album here:

And for this remix of "Back and Forth", I'll let the drummer and master-DJ himself, Joseph Mirasole tell it like it is. "It's my space-disco adventure take on a song that is truly about fucking."

Radiohead-The King of Limbs remixes
Here's the third installment of the series of remixes Radiohead has been releasing for the Kings of Limbs album.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (2011)
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER was the summer movie that I was looking forward to seeing the most. You see, I love the character which is strange because I've honestly never read a Captain America comic book. But Cap is different. What makes Cap different is that he didn't need some terrible or unfortunate life-altering event (like Batman, Iron Man, Spider-Man, etc) to be a hero. He is and was always a good man. That's how I like my heroes: good. No gray area. No anti-heroes. Big, moral and clad in primary colors. I know I'm the minority, but I'm frequently the minority. I should prolly warn yall that this "review" is prolly gonna be the closest you'll see me nerd out and be a fan boy... (more after the jump)
THE AVENGERS Short Teaser Trailer
My Captain America review is coming. To whet your appetite, here's the end of Captain America (spoiler... he lives) and a short teaser for Joss Whedon's "upcoming" sure-to-be blockbuster, THE AVENGERS (2012).

The Walking Dead Season 2
Oh boy am I excited for this--season two of The Walking Dead! Up above is a trailer for the new season and below is a splendidly horrifying clip (for mature audiences only). If you didn’t watch season one, get caught up now; the show is something great (10/16).
Whipped Cream of the Day
• A new song from Björk & everything else you would possibly want to know about her upcoming projects (including multiple iTunes apps). New album Biophilia is out 9/27.
• The follow up to Neon Indian’s colorful and trippy Psychic Chasms has been announced. Era Extraña will hit us on 9/13.
• Stream Theophilus London’s recent release Timez Are Weird These Days & Live From Nowhere Near You: Volume Two which features lots of great music from artists such as Wilco & Modest Mouse, and it benefits a great cause too.
• Brand rockin’ new Red Hot Chili Peppers!! New Album I’m With You out 8/30. Also, a track from the much anticipated Watch The Throne album from the current kings of the hip-hip game, Jay-Z & Kanye West.
• The end to all those bats, the ass kicking (and no aging) Sarah Michelle Gellar is back with a secret identity, & Emma Watson is going to play a Beauty (which shouldn’t be hard).
• Drake hates singles but the first one that’ll be released from his sophomore album, Take Care (10/24), is titled “Headlines.” As I myself am a collaboration enthusiastic, I was excited to hear that he has expressed interest in working with Florence Welch & Jamie of the xx.
• Download a track from Ladytron’s upcoming album free thanks to Amazon!

Head over to this site to download their new track "Midnight City" from their upcoming album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. Or head over to Soundcloud to listen & download.

Film review: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2
I never read the Harry Potter books which makes me either the most ideal or least ideal choice for reviewing HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2. Actually, not true. I read the first book in my AP junior English class waaaay back in 2001. And I thoroughly enjoyed the book, mind you... Just never got around to continuing the series. Anyways...
Kind of regardless of whether or not I liked the movie, I wanted to say that what the Harry Potter crew accomplished is astounding and groundbreaking. They took a giant story and turned it into 8, great, timeless films that, essentially, told an epic in real time. (More after the jump)
Kitten Item of the Week
So... the Kitten Item of the Week was supposed to be a joke about how all people do on the internet is look at kitten videos and pictures... because people lose their shit over kittens... But, apparently to prove my point, people flocked to that one... So, let's do another one inspired by the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2.
Who's this guy? Purr-meow-one Mange-er? Hairy Purr-ter? Paw-nold Meowlsey? Mwahahaha...

Led Zeppelin, Satan's Toolshed, and the Power of the Mind
Awesome clip that shows "how your brain gets fooled to see something that is not there because of your biases, prejudices and expectations." Trust, you'll never think about "Stairway to Heaven" the same way again.
We're more than just music, movies, and kittens. We also drop the science!
Radiohead-The King of Limbs remixes
Here are the next remixes in a series of that Radiohead is putting out for the masses. They also added that everything will be released on CD format at the end of it all.

Kitten Item of the Week
I've been trying to think of ways to appeal to the masses. So after a serious, SERIOUS brainstorming session, I figured out that people LOVE kittens. People lose their shit over kittens... which brings us to motorcycle sidecar drama's first... Kitten Item of the Week!
So, who is this li'l guy? F*ck if I know... but it's a kitten. Awwwwww. Say it with me. Awwwwww...Yall should comment below... Awwwwwww.....
... Okay, the male half of this website might be losing his mind.

Review: THE LORD OF THE RINGS - The Ridiculous Box Set
The crazy, 15-disk, blu-ray, LORD OF THE RINGS box set came out a couple weeks ago, and I opted to buy it. I owned the original DVDs (from when they still offered full screen vs. widescreen) but scratches and time had taken their toll... And really... I was just curious. I had never watched the extended editions, and I'm of the camp that thinks the RINGS movies are of the most ambitious and amazing feats in cinematic history. I mean... the scope of the story, the ingenuity of the production, the effects, the casting... How three movies were done in one shoot... Just amazing. Though I love Kevin Smith, I do not agree with his assessment.
(Sidenote... I think that the Harry Potter films, as a whole, also deserve the distinction and recognition for what they have done... But if they don't get that recognition, I blame the casting abomination that is Bonnie "Ginny Weasley" Wright. She's beautiful but uncomfortably dull.)
Now... this box set is not for the passive fan. (More after the jump)

Whipped Cream of the Day
• Listen to a couple new tracks from Ryan Adams, “Empty Room” featuring background vocals from his wife/singer/actress, Mandy Moore. “Shine Through The Dark” has also come to surface & will be featured on the upcoming compilation cd titled Live From Nowhere Near You: Volume Two. No word yet on when a new album will be coming.
• Good news for my favorite television couple, Jim & Pam.
• Also in television news, the Emmy nominations were announced this morning. Finally, credit for the amazing writing and acting that is Parks & Recreation. We’re also Team Coco here, so the fact that Jay Leno was snubbed again has the little demon on our shoulder giggling.
• With Brothers still in heavy rotation, Black Keys announced they’ve already finished a follow-up record, & it’s going to be released later this year.
• Fun Fun Fun Fest revealed a tiny list of bands that will play at this year’s fest via this video. If you don’t feel like busting out your nautical picture to letter dictionary, skip the video & see the bands here.
• Anything that RAC (Remix Artist Collective) touches, I instantly love and end up playing on repeat. Here is a remix they did of Theophilus London’s “Why Even Try”, and you can download it for free.
• Toro Y Moi is set to release Freaking Out EP on 9/13. The album does not consist of remains from his last release Underneath the Pine but new material that he recorded on the road. Download "Saturday Love" via Pitchfork.
• Sorry 4 The Wait is Lil Wayne’s apology for making us sit and shrug as he pushes back the release date to Tha Carter IV over and over again (8/29). You can download the mixtape here.
• Listen to the first single “Money” from The Drums next album, Portamento, which has a release date of 9/12.
• Listen here to Mount Kimbie’s Carbonated EP before it comes out July 18th.

JACK AND JILL and George C. Scott
Found this, and it pretty much sums up how I feel about the latest offerings from Adam Sandler...
Random thoughts...
1. This feels like a movie even Eddie Murphy wouldn't do... or he'd be ALL the characters... and he'd prolly do it better. Adam Sandler, what the hell happened to you?!
2. THIS is what Katie Holmes has been up to?! Remember when she was in BATMAN BEGINS and then inexplicably didn't do THE DARK KNIGHT so that she could do a movie no one remembers? Is Xenu really in charge of her career, because holy crap!
3. THIS is what Al Pacino has been up to?!?!
Dave Grohl Really is the Coolest Man in Rock 'n' Roll
Just to recap, you don't go to the Foo Fighters' show to fight. You go to f*cking dance.

Washed Out - Within And Without
The long awaited album to complete my summer came out today via SubPop. Grab your copy today; you will not be disappointed. Forty minutes of dreamy, romantic, synth-filled beats will make your day so much better, I promise.

Whipped Cream of the Day
• Here at MSD, we are super pumped for the last Harry Potter installment (it’s bitter sweet). We’ll have a movie review up soon. Here are some charming pictures of the boys in support of Radcliffe's broadway show.
• Panda Bear makes his first appearance as a solo artist on Jimmy Fallon. Danny Perez (via ODDSAC) provided the trippy visuals.
• Speaking of, a great article about Animal Collective finally getting to play a set at Merriweather Post Pavilion (their 8th album title & the best thing your body and ears will ever listen to).
• Hear the b-side "Blue Moon" to the Kills second single off Blood Pressures, “The Future Starts Slow.”
• Can’t stop listening to this tune “Lover” by Blondes.
• The second single "Ambulances" from Ladytron’s Gravity the Seducer (9/13). Also, check out "White Elephant".
• Hercules & Love Affair: video for “Painted Eyes” & a remix of Chromeo’s “When The Night Falls”.
• SLEEP PARTY PEOPLE “In The Morning Sun We Stand (The Antlers/Peter Silberman Remix)”
• I gotta put up this video to Is Tropical’s “The Greeks” which features a bunch of little boys doing their best impression of a day-in-the life of the Sopranos--complete with fun animation.
• Listen to these two Black Milk tracks with Jack White producing and trying his hands in the hip-hop genre.

Soccer and "Seven Nation Army"
So, I've been in full-on soccer (football!) mode since the Gold Cup (and since basketball season ended). After the US women's stunning... STUNNING come from behind victory, I felt it was appropriate to do something soccer related.
"Seven Nation Army" has been adopted as a staple chant of soccer stadiums worldwide, especially in Europe. Proof? The White Stripes playing in Bologna, Italy. How cool is this?

Save Water, Listen With A Friend
I've been desperately attempting to figure out how to put up a music player, so I can post mixes, and by george, I've finally succeeded. So here it is, my first, enjoy!
Whipped Cream of the Day
• Lady Gaga + Shark Week +Andy Samberg. I didn’t think it was possible.
• Everyone’s favorite neurotic, overanxious comic, my man LD, is back for another season. Premiere tonight! (Anyone have HBO?)
• I may be late on this news but nevertheless, one of my favorite phrases “I HATE YOU DAD!” is going to be made into a movie with lots of big screen favorites.
• Tunechi’s Back but he never really went anywhere....well besides jail.
• M83 teases us with some new sounds and a video. New album is supposed to epic and about dreams. Can’t wait!
• A young lady from Houston is taking “pucker up” to a whole new & fun meaning. Amazing stuff.
• Love me some mixes, especially when they include the words “by Ernest Greene (aka Washed Out).

Terrible Song from My Youth: Crash Test Dummies' "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm"
So, for this edition of the Terrible Song from My Youth I've decided on...
First... what kinda dick names a song after a humming sound?... And not just one humming sound. Four. There are four Mmms. Couldn't we have just named it "Mmm" or even "Mmm Mmm." Could have been called "Pointless Stories," or he could have been pretentious and called it "Untitled" but no... I mean, that's 12 Ms, for fuck's sake.
What makes this song so terrible is the lyrics. With a capable songwriter (and a non-congested singer), this could have been a decent song. (More after the jump)

"Write Me a Few Lines" - Seasick Steve
Here's one for you: What do you get when you cross half of The Dead Weather (Alison Mosshart and Jack White), a fourth of Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones) and... umm.... Seasick Steve (who has an interesting story of his own)? Something incredible.
I've since downloaded the album You can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks, and it's a pretty awesome and diverse collection of blues, rock, and country.

Whipped Cream of the Day
• Stream this and that.
• Our favorite Kristen Wiig impersonator is back! Just kidding, it’s Björk.
• England’s Wild Beasts decided to give this song away for free (from their newest album Smother), and I’m glad they did.
• Mumford & Sons cover The National’s “England.” Although not as good as the original, still an interesting rendition of the song.
• With a piano melody similar to that of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” and the help of producer Ben Allen, “Shuffle” is only a prelude to the rest of Bombay Bicycle Club’s new album (August 29).
• An eerie and sexy cover of “She’s Not There” which will be featured in the upcoming soundtrack for this season of True Blood.
• Came across these hilarious “In Defense Of…” segments featuring some of Hollywood’s laughables.
• Must watch parody videos by a group that calls themselves The Key of Awesome. Awesomeness ensures.
• I still love Coldplay, and I’m not afraid to shout it from every rainbow top!

Best Albums of 2k11...so far!
Well folks, we made it half way through 2011 with threats of an apocalypse, the great royal wedding, and all those fun infidelity scandals (Weiner!). There was also some great music that presented itself, and here are a few that we picked. If you haven't gotten your copy of each one, jog on over to your local record store and check them out.

Congratulations to Jamie Hince and Kate Moss
Today, The Kills' Jamie Hince and supermodel Kate Moss got married, so MSD would like to extend a hearty congratulations to the happy couple. And obviously, this gives us a reason to post some music from a couple of our favorite bands, so...
Here's Jamie and Alison Mosshart's Glastonbury set. (Really, Jack? The whole set? Yes, it's worth it.)
And... here's Kate Moss in The White Stripes' video for "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself." Warning: It's... Well, pretty much the whole thing is her on a stripper pole.
